Almost 200 women from across the borough wore their most glamorous frocks and their best hats for today’s (Thursday 17 June 2010) Ladies' Day in aid of the NSPCC.

The Rochdale NSPCC's Ascot Ladies' Day is now in its sixth year, and held at Nutters restaurant in Norden, was a sellout; guests enjoyed award winning dishes and made the most of this year’s 'pink' theme.

John Kay of the Littleborough NSPCC, and a director of Rochdale Online, donned a pink waistcoat and a top hat with a pink feather for the occasion, he said: “This year we have got more people, better weather and we are optimistic we will get a bigger result money-wise.

“I have had a great time; I always enjoy it. My thanks go to everybody who has helped.”

Mr Kay added: “In recent years we have raised around £5,000 but we hope to do even better than that.”

Staff Fisherfield Farm Nursery presented the NSPCC’s Debbie Sefton with a cheque for £2,922.93 which was raised from numerous fundraising events.

Treasurer Lis Kay said: “Today has gone extremely well. It is an opportunity to dress up and have some fun. Each year we try to make it a little bit different and a little bit better.

“We have had two younger members on the committee this year, Eve and Amy, and that has been exciting they have given the day a different slant.”

Councillor Ann Metcalfe was amongst the guests, she said: “I am sure everyone has had a fantastic time, the food was delicious the company has been superb and all the ladies have done themselves proud.”

A grand total of £6,270.00 was raised for the NSPCC.
